Chula Vista suffered their biggest defeat since February 17, 2024 on Friday. 2025 welcomed they with a 66-44 loss courtesy of the Escondido Cougars. The Spartans' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Escondido found their leader in sophomore Maddox Mendoza, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Danny Valadez, who went 7 of 14 en route to 19 points and five rebounds.

Chula Vista's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-5. As for Escondido, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chula Vista will take on Southwest EC at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Escondido, they will challenge Calvin Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Calvin Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
