The Monticello Mustangs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They breezed by Goochland at home to the tune of 63-2. That 63-2 margin sets a new team best for Monticello this season.
Samantha Shifflett was her usual excellent self, scoring 15 points along with six steals. The contest was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Maddie Branche, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Monticello pushed their record up to 3-1 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 32 points. As for Goochland, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monticello won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Waynesboro at 7:30 p.m. on December 13th. Waynesboro will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while Monticello is ranked 75th). As for Goochland, they will head out on the road to face off against Western Albemarle at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Western Albemarle will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
