On Friday, The Canyon State Academy Rams faced the Heritage Academy Heroes in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Canyon State Academy was dealt a 42-6 defeat at the hands of Heritage Academy. Canyon State Academy has struggled against Heritage Academy recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Heritage Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jordan Scott, who picked up 123 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Scott was no stranger to the big play, connecting with a big catch that went for 62 yards. Kolton Forsgren was another key contributor, rushing for 51 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries.
Heritage Academy's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. The heavy lifting was done by Ryan Nelson and Varis Carling who racked up five sacks between them.
Canyon State Academy's loss was their fifth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-1 Imagine Prep and 8-2 Imagine Prep Superstition (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 77.6% over those games). As for Heritage Academy, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Canyon State Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Heritage Academy will head out on the road to face off against South Pointe at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Pointe comes in on a streak of failing to score more than eight points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
