The Wellington Skyrockets had already won 13 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.2 points), and they went ahead and made it 14 on Friday. They took down Memphis 61-43. Given Wellington's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 451st, while Memphis is ranked 1306th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Cyclones players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dresden Johnson, who scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was Ryder Robison, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Wellington pushed their record up to 17-6 with that win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.1 points per game. As for Memphis, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.
Wellington will head out on the road to square off against Wheeler at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Memphis, they will be playing at home against Clarendon at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
