The Mayer Wildcats struggled with assists on Thursday (the Pinon Eagles had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Mayer took a serious blow against Pinon, falling 67-17. Mayer has not had much luck with Pinon recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Danni McCann was Mayer's leading scorer, having posted eight points.
Fatima Morales held things down on the boards with eight rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pinon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shanna Begaye, who scored five points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Phildeya Lee, who scored ten points.
Mayer has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7-1 record this season. As for Pinon, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-10.
Mayer and Chino Valley will round out the year against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Pinon is on the road again on Thursday and play against Gilbert Classical Academy at 4:30 p.m. on December 28, 2023. Gilbert Classical Academy's defense has only allowed 29.2 points per game this season, so Pinon's offense will have their work cut out for Pinon.
