The Gaston Day Spartans pushed their score all the way to 63 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Gaston Christian on the road by a decisive 81-63 margin. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (55), Gaston Day still had to take the loss.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Deshawn Coulter, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Kurt Hunter, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Gaston Day struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Gaston Christian pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Gaston Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cameron Newman, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten assists. Joe Rhyne was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Gaston Day and nudges their season record down to 16-11. As for Gaston Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 17-14 record this season.
