The Bristol Bay Angels's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a hard 54-37 fall against Sand Point. Bristol Bay was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Sand Point apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2020.
Olivia Harvilla and Brooke Phelps certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Harvilla scored 18 points, while Phelps scored 17 points. That was a full 48.6% of Bristol Bay's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Sand Point was led to victory by Arianna Wilson and Misty Marine. Wilson scored 22 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Marine scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. That makes it four consecutive games in which Wilson has scored at least a third of Sand Point's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Gundersen, who scored ten points.
Bristol Bay's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Sand Point, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bristol Bay won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Dillingham on January 25th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Alaska (Dillingham is ranked 65th, while Bristol Bay is ranked 70th). As for Sand Point, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Koliganek at 7:30 p.m. on January 25th. Koliganek is on a three-game streak of home losses, Sand Point a two-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change.
