After both having extra time off, the Community Christian Cyclones and the Southeast Halifax Trojans will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Community Christian will head into Saturday's game on the come-up: they were handed a heart-breaking two-point defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Varsity Opponent last Saturday. Community Christian blew past Varsity Opponent 63-22. The Cyclones have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 30 points or more this season.
Community Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Evan Gattis out in front who went 6 for 13 on his way to 21 points and four steals. Jack Beamon was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards.
Meanwhile, Southeast Halifax came up short against Northwest Halifax last Friday and fell 67-58.
Despite the loss, Southeast Halifax saw an underclassman step up: sophomore O'Tavion Arrington went 6 of 15 on his way to 15 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Raquan Scott, who posted 13 points.
Even though they lost, Southeast Halifax smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.
Community Christian is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.8 points per game. As for Southeast Halifax, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Community Christian and Southeast Halifax are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Community Christian hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 74.8 points per game.
