Baseball Recap: Cobre Extends Winning Streak to Four

Cobre came tearing into Saturday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Socorro Warriors as they made off with a 21-2 win. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by seven runs or more this season.

Cameron Ortiz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Ezekiel Rodriguez looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jesus Lopez, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Aaron Harrington was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Cobre always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Cobre's record now sits at 15-7. As for Socorro, they dropped their record down to 6-15 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

Coming up, Cobre will host Hatch Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.05 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Socorro, they will venture away from home to square off against Silver at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors are facing the Fighting Colts at the right time seeing as the Fighting Colts are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
