The Big Valley Cardinals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell to Happy Camp 55-49. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Big Valley in their matchups with Happy Camp: they've now lost four in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Big Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Josue Barba. Despite the final result, he scored 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barba has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tzintzintli Moya, who scored ten points.
Big Valley struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Happy Camp pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Happy Camp to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jason Day, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jean Wright, who scored eight points along with six steals.
Big Valley has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for Happy Camp, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-2.
Big Valley will be playing at home against Surprise Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Surprise Valley is coming into the game with four straight defeats on the road, meaning Big Valley will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. Happy Camp's road trip will continue as they head out to face Chester at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Chester will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Happy Camp surely won't give up without a fight.
