Baseball Recap: Martin County Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Martin County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Tug Valley, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Martin County blew past Tug Valley 10-3 on Saturday. Considering the Cardinals have won four games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Martin County got a great performance from Knox Maynard as he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, Maynard posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Crayson Lafferty and Elijah Mills did most of the damage at the plate: Lafferty scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Mills scored two runs and stole a base. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Stephens, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

The win was the third in a row for Martin County, bringing their record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Tug Valley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Coming up, Martin County will be playing in front of their home fans against Letcher County Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Tug Valley, they will challenge Sherman at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
