North Carolina's high school football season came to a close this weekend with championship games in seven classes.
A pair of early games kicked off the action in stark contrast as East Forsyth (13-2) gritted out a 24-21 win over Cardinal Gibbons (12-3) in the Class 4A title game, while Shelby (14-1) blew by Salisbury (13-3) 34-0 in the Class 2AA title game.
In Class 4AA, the Zebulon B. Vance (13-2) defense smothered previously unbeaten Leesville Road (13-1). The Cougars forced five turnovers in the 24-3 triumph.
Reidsville (15-1) was also powered by a staunch defensive effort, blanking Northeastern (12-4) 14-0 in the Class 2A title game.
Robbinsville (15-0) capped off a perfect season with a dominant showing in a 45-14 victory over Northampton County (11-4).
The Class 3A final saw Charlotte Catholic (12-3) upset Southern Nash (15-1) 23-7.
The final two games of the season saw lopsided results, as Weddington (16-0) defeated Lee County (15-1) 34-14 in the 3AA title game and East Surry (15-0) handled Tarboro (14-1) 56-28 in Class 1AA
Champions in 2018 include Murphy (Class 1A), Tarboro (Class 1AA), Reidsville (Class 2A), Shelby (Class 2AA), Charlotte Catholic (Class 3A), Weddington (Class 3AA), East Forsyth (Class 4A) and Wake Forest (Class 4AA).
