Mt. Carmel is 2-8 against Rancho Bernardo since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mt. Carmel Sundevils will head out on the road to face off against the Rancho Bernardo Broncos at 7:30 p.m. Rancho Bernardo took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Mt. Carmel, who comes in off a win.
Even though Mt. Carmel has not done well against Poway recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Mt. Carmel enjoyed a cozy 65-50 win over Poway.
Mt. Carmel found their leader in underclassman Makai Orje, who scored 19 points along with 6 assists and 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianni Bernabe, who scored 17 points along with 3 steals.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 61-30, which was the final score in Rancho Bernardo's tilt against Sage Creek last Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Rancho Bernardo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 819th, while Sage Creek is ranked 377th).
The losses dropped Mt. Carmel to 2-5 and Poway to 2-6.
Mt. Carmel came up short against Rancho Bernardo when the teams last played back in February, falling 62-50. Thankfully for Mt. Carmel, Cameron Wood (who shot 5-for-6 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 26 points and 10 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
