Softball Recap: St. Helena Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

St. Helena waltzed into their match on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Salesian College Preparatory Pride. The Saints might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

Tahlia Smith made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-5. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Lillian Grimes was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Olive Filippini was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.

St. Helena kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

St. Helena's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Salesian College Preparatory, they moved to 3-5 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Helena will square off against Cloverdale at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Salesian College Preparatory, they will challenge De Anza at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
