The Mount Miguel Matadors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 20 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 59-28 win over Grossmont on the road. Given Mount Miguel's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 435th, while Grossmont is ranked 1054th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mount Miguel was led to victory by Thaddeus Boudreaux and Mekhi Sydney. Boudreaux scored 17 points, while Sydney scored 20 points along with five steals. That's the first time this season that Sydney grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean Abram, who scored four points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Mount Miguel has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Grossmont, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mount Miguel will take on Monte Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Monte Vista sitting on five straight wins and Mount Miguel on three. As for Grossmont, they will stay at home for another game and welcome El Cajon Valley at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. El Cajon Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Grossmont likes a good challenge.
