Maryland School for the Deaf suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after defeating Options Charter. The Orioles had been ranked 25th, but fell to 185 following the defeat.
Riverdale Baptist took down Model School for the Deaf 53-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Justin Baynes ran for 108 yards in the win.
The Crusaders' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Nate Washington threw for 21 and one touchdown and Devin Steele had 10 yards receiving.
Thanks to the talents of Washington and Baynes Riverdale Baptist has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Washington leads the league in passing with 271 yards, while Baynes has rushed for 503 yards this season. Perry Street Prep's Jerod Diggs leads the league in receiving yards with 113 on four catches.
The marquee game in Capital Area this week will be the clash between the The and Bob Shields 's team. Perry Street Prep enters the contest ranked 16th in the state, while the Crusaders ranks 15th.
There should be lots of points scored when Eric Knight's team and Riverdale Baptist face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the The comes in having scored 155 this season, while the Crusaders have scored 143. Perry Street Prep scored 14 points last week as it lost to Avalon.
The Black Knights made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,653 from 6,456. The improvement came about via a 22-14 victory over the The last week.
