The Atholton Raiders pushed their score all the way to 62 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 67-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of River Hill. Atholton lost against River Hill in their previous head to head back in February, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 50-49 score last time.
Defeat or not, Atholton got some senior leadership from Camden Thibeault who scored 19 points along with six steals and Amir Shaheed who scored 19 points along with six rebounds. Eli Appelbaum was another key contributor, scoring no points along with six rebounds and five steals.
River Hill had a senior duo take command as Soma Unegbu scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and OJ Ndu dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Sauritch, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Atholton's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for River Hill, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Atholton will be playing in front of their home fans against Wilde Lake at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maryland (Wilde Lake is ranked 89th, while Atholton is ranked 110th). As for River Hill, they will head out on the road to face off against Long Reach at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
