Football Recap: Mcallen Memorial Skates Past Juarez-Lincoln with Ease

McAllen Memorial waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Juarez-Lincoln Huskies 42-14. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Mustangs' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 546th, while the Huskies are ranked 1175th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead McAllen Memorial to victory, but perhaps none more so than Braxton Speights, who rushed for 234 yards and three scores while picking up 13.8 yards per carry. Speights is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 103 every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Soliz, who gained 97 total yards and three touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: McAllen Memorial was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 365 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 219 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

McAllen Memorial's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB 3.5 times. Javier Aaron Izaguirre was especially locked on to Juarez-Lincoln's QB and sacked him 2.5 times. Aaron Izaguirre also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 11. Dalton Keller was another major factor on D, making 15 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

McAllen Memorial's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Juarez-Lincoln, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. McAllen Memorial is set to take on their familiar foe Vela at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Juarez-Lincoln will face off against rival Palmview at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th.
