The Kenesaw Blue Devils will head out on the road to challenge the Wood River Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kenesaw is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
Last Saturday, it was a hard-fought match, but Kenesaw had to settle for a 43-41 defeat against Bertrand.
Despite the loss, Kenesaw saw an underclassman step up: Adam Denkert dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. Jravin Suck was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wood River's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They suffered a tough 60-39 defeat at the hands of Doniphan-Trumbull. While losing is never fun, Wood River can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while Doniphan-Trumbull is ranked 13th).
Kenesaw has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for Wood River, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-9.
Kenesaw couldn't quite finish off Wood River when the teams last played back in February of 2023 and fell 46-44. Can Kenesaw avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
