Arleta extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 7-14. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Verdugo Hills Dons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-8 back in April.
DEZIREE GARCIA was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI. BRYGETTE RAYGOZA was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
As for Verdugo Hills, the win got them back to even at 8-8-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 10th.
On Verdugo Hills' side, Madesyn Meadows made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over 6.2 innings pitched. Meadows has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Verdugo Hills let Megan Brink and Serena Baig run wild. Brink went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Baig went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI Baig has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Brink, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Arleta is set to square off against their familiar foe Kennedy at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Verdugo Hills will face off against rival Poly at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
