Even though the Elevation Prep Academy Honey Badgers scored an imposing 71 points on Thursday, the Charlotte Elite Academy Soldiers still came out on top. Charlotte Elite Academy snuck past Elevation Prep Academy with a 75-71 victory. Given Charlotte Elite Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Elevation Prep Academy is ranked 325th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Charlotte Elite Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jordan King, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. King also posted eight assists for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Antoine Boone, who scored 16 points.
Elevation Prep Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being IZEIR MAYBEN, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and six steals. MAYBEN hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of JAYLEN THOMAS, who scored 18 points along with two steals.
Charlotte Elite Academy is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Elevation Prep Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Charlotte Elite Academy on the road again on Monday and play against Central Carolina Prep at 7:30 p.m. on January 15th. Hopefully Central Carolina Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Friday. As for Elevation Prep Academy, they will head out on the road to take on Oak Hill Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
