Wawasee has been on the road for five straight, but on Saturday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Plymouth Pilgrims/Rockies at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. After both teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky.
Wawasee posted their biggest victory since November 30, 2023 on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Mishawaka as Wawasee made off with a 50-27 win. The win was just what Wawasee needed coming off of a 71-31 defeat in their prior matchup.
Lucy Wilkinson and Mackenzie Hackleman were among the main playmakers for Wawasee as the former scored 13 points along with four steals and the latter scored 18 points along with eight steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wilkinson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ava Couture, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Plymouth waltzed into their matchup last Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They beat La Porte by the very same score they won with last week: 61-35. Given Plymouth's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while La Porte is ranked 321st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Plymouth to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lena Jones, who dropped a triple-double on ten points, 15 rebounds, and 11 assists. That's the first time this season that Jones posted eight or more assists. Rylee Mann was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Wawasee's win bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Plymouth, they pushed their record up to 10-8 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Wawasee was able to grind out a solid win over Plymouth when the teams last played back in January of 2023, winning 38-28. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Plymouth's Taylor Delp, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds. Now that she won't be playing on Saturday, will it be that much easier for Wawasee to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
