There's no place like home for Okolona, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top against the Vardaman Rams by a score of 34-26 on Thursday. For the Chieftains, this counts as revenge for the 42-12 win the Rams walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Okolona's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaylen Jennings, who rushed for 44 yards and two scores, and also threw for 112 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten passes. Tre'Vuan Vance was another key rusher, rushing for 94 yards and one TD on only 13 carries.

Okolona didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jaiydence Herron and Jaiden Grady.

When it comes to explaining why Vardaman lost, don't look at Grant Parker. Despite the final result, he rushed for 40 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 141 yards and one touchdown while completing 71.4% of his passes. Colton Edmondson was in the mix as well, providing the Rams with one TD.

Okolona's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-6. As for Vardaman, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.

Okolona and Vardaman are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Chieftains will challenge West Tallahatchie at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. As for Vardaman, they will face off against Leflore County at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. The Tigers will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Rams surely won't give up without a fight.
