Owensboro Catholic is a perfect 4-0 against Madisonville-North Hopkins since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Aces are taking a road trip to square off against the Maroons at 6:00 p.m. Owensboro Catholic's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Madisonville-North Hopkins' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
While Owensboro Catholic's win against Calloway County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Aces had just enough and edged out the Lakers 1-0. Give the Aces' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Jaxson White looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Parker Heistand was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, Madisonville-North Hopkins waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Wildcats.
Evan Lear spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Madisonville-North Hopkins' win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ryder Sandidge, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases. Sandidge is becoming a predictor of the Maroons' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 7-11 when he doesn't). Alex Richards was another, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Owensboro Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Madisonville-North Hopkins, their record is now 17-11.
Owensboro Catholic took their win against Madisonville-North Hopkins in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 10-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Aces since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
