Softball Recap: Moriarty Wins Going Away Against Espanola Valley

Moriarty won the last time they faced Espanola Valley and things went their way on Saturday too. The Pintos were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Sundevils. The Pintos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by eight runs or more this season.

Isabella Gallegos made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Sienna Rios was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, two runs, and one RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Rodriguez, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.

Moriarty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Espanola Valley only posted an OBP of .357.

Moriarty is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.4 runs over those games. As for Espanola Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.

Moriarty will take on Taos at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pintos are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Espanola Valley, they will face off against Grants at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Sundevils surely won't give up without a fight.
