After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lakeland Christian, the Fort Meade Miners were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They snuck past Frostproof with a 56-51 win. This was a revenge match for Fort Meade, as the team was forced to settle for a 74-69 loss when these two played two weeks ago.
Fort Meade found their leader in underclassman Omari Russell, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Russell has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Nasier Berrien, who scored ten points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Frostproof still got an impressive performance from Sevastian Rosado, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds. Rosado is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Maurice Blakely was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Fort Meade has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Frostproof, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 14-6.
Fort Meade won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lake Placid at 8:00 p.m. on January 26th. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Isaiah Gonzalez and Berrien. As for Frostproof, they will be playing at home against Lakeland Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
