5A Region IV District 28 recap Nov. 7, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Southwest, who took down 278th ranked King, 16-14.
The Dragons moved up to 372 from 429 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region IV District 28. Southwest was able to make move up by defeating the Mustangs 16-14.
Steele's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Breylann McCollum threw for 103 and three touchdowns and Thaddeous Thompson had 54 yards receiving. On the ground Justin Stockton chipped in 191 yards. Matthew Mayle helped Steele's passing attack out by catching four balls for 28 yards.
Steele's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Knights feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. McCollum has thrown for 915 yards and seven touchdowns this season, while Mayle has 16 catches for 258 yards. Stockton leads the league in rushing with 1169 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Steele takes on second place Southwest. Last week, the Knights defeated Carroll, while Peter Wagner's team beat King.
There should be lots of points scored when Steele and the Dragons face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Michael Jinks' team comes in having scored 399 this season, while Southwest has scored 325. The Knights scored 38 points last week as they topped the Tigers.
Steele extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region IV District 28 this week by beating Carroll, 38-0. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Knights.
