The Northwood Chargers and the Myers Park Mustangs (ranked 77 and three in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile contest. Northwood lost to Myers Park at home by a decisive 63-47 margin on Saturday. It was the first time this season that Northwood let down their fans at home.
Despite the loss, Northwood still got an impressive performance from Drake Powell, who scored 23 points along with three blocks. Powell hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Beau Harvey, who scored five points along with three steals.
Northwood struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Myers Park got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sadiq White Jr. out in front who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sir Mohammed, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds.
Northwood's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-3. As for Myers Park, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 13-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northwood will take on North Moore at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Myers Park, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Olympic at 7:30 p.m. Olympic is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
