Lyford and Raymondville are an even 4-4 against one another since September of 2016, but not for long. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lyford's defense has only allowed 11.8 points per game this season, so Raymondville's offense will have their work cut out for them.
Lyford took a loss when they played away from home back in September, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Friday. They strolled past Falfurrias with points to spare, taking the game 20-6. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Fightin' Jerseys recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Among those leading the charge was Ryan Gonzales, who rushed for 61 yards and three scores. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September of 2024.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lyford was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 237 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 153 rushing yards in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Raymondville never let their opponents score last Friday. They claimed a resounding 76-0 victory over Progreso. The game marked the Bearkats' most dominant win of the season.
Lyford better keep an eye on Traeshaun Washington. He was instrumental in Raymondville's win, rushing for 203 yards and four touchdowns on only eight carries. Washington's longest rush was for an incredible 72 yards. Jose Hernandez also deserves some recognition as he hauled in his first receiving touchdown of the season.
Lyford's record is now 4-1. As for Raymondville, their record now sits at 5-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Lyford has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 193.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Raymondville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 263.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Lyford won a game that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, slipping by Raymondville 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
