The Kankakee Valley Kougars will square off against the Hanover Central Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Kankakee Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Kankakee Valley's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Pioneer by a score of 3-0. The Kougars haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Not much got past Kyli Page, who gave up just five hits to keep Pioneer off the board. Page has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kankakee Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mallorie Rose, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Julia Mahmet was another, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Hanover Central made sure to put some runs up on the board against Griffith on Thursday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Claire Edgerton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on ten hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Sienna Stilley and Nora Edgerton did most of the damage at the plate: Stilley went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one double, while Nora went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave Edgerton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Oostman, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Hanover Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Kankakee Valley's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hanover Central, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-4 record.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Kankakee Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Hanover Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .364. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
