Dunbar and Meadowdale are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Dunbar Wolverines on the road again on Monday and play against the Meadowdale Lions at 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Hopefully Dunbar focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday.
Dunbar suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Saturday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 44-22 walloping at the hands of Franklin Monroe.
Despite their defeat, Dunbar saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Zaria Ballard, who scored four points along with 12 rebounds and six blocks, was perhaps the best of all. Sa'rai Ridley was another key contributor, scoring three points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Meadowdale scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Cristo Rey 75-6 at home. Meadowdale has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 24 points or more this season.
Meadowdale's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zhieyah Rolack led the charge by dropping a double-double on 25 points and 17 rebounds. Rolack is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Janiyah Middlebrook, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds.
Dunbar bumped their record down to 3-11 with that loss, which was their seventh straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.6 points per game. As for Meadowdale, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-2.
Monday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Dunbar have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 33.4 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Meadowdale, though, as they've been averaging only 36.6 rebounds per game. Given Dunbar's sizeable advantage in that area, Meadowdale will need to find a way to close that gap.
Dunbar took a serious blow against Meadowdale in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 57-25. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Rolack, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 18 rebounds. Now that Dunbar knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
