It was a good run, but The Virginia City Muckers unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 38-20 bruising from Eureka. Virginia City was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Eureka apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2016.
Despite the loss, Virginia City saw an underclassman step up: Merrick Marotti threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns.
Virginia City's loss dropped their record down to 7-1. As for Eureka, their win was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 8-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Virginia City will take on Pyramid Lake at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Pyramid Lake knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Virginia City likes a good challenge. As for Eureka, they will be playing at home against Mammoth at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mammoth knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Eureka likes a good challenge.
