Basketball Recap: Forestview Has No Trouble Against North Gaston

Forestview was handed a heart-breaking three-point defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against North Gaston on Tuesday. Everything went the Forestview Jaguars' way against the North Gaston Wildcats as the Forestview Jaguars made off with an 80-59 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Jaguars have posted since December 26, 2024.

Forestview had a senior duo take command as Daijhon Young went 12 for 14 en route to 24 points in addition to six steals and five rebounds and Alex Helton went 7 of 12 on his way to 22 points. Those six steals gave Young a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Quinton Rybczyk, who posted nine points and eight assists.

Forestview was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Gaston only racked up 12 assists.

When it comes to explaining why North Gaston lost, don't look at Markell Carothers. Despite the final result, he went 9 for 15 on his way to 25 points and six boards. Carothers' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Jaylen Hill was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Forestview's record now sits at 9-12. As for North Gaston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 14 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.

Forestview and North Gaston could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Forestview (ranked 310th) will meet Ashbrook (ranked 40th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Forestview has given up an average of 56 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. Similarly, North Gaston will square off against Kings Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on Friday down 322 places (478 vs. 156).
