St. Augustine is 0-5 against Catholic since May of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Purple Knights will welcome the Bears at 5:00 p.m. St. Augustine will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
St. Augustine took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Edna Karr get on the board and left with a 4-0 win. The Purple Knights haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
The result came thanks to Kellen Thompson, Jr.'s shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dylan Robinson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Brayden Stewart was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Catholic was able to grind out a solid win over South Beauregard on Thursday, taking the game 7-4.
Catholic also got a great performance from Reis Wascom as he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits.
At the plate, Dekohta Jones was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Harrison Kidder, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 19-2. As for St. Augustine, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 11-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. St. Augustine has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
St. Augustine couldn't quite get it done against Catholic in their previous meeting back in March of 2025 as they fell 7-2. Will the Purple Knights have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
