The Sunnyslope Vikings scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 79-61 win over La Mirada. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Sunnyslope found their leader in underclassman John Mattingly, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 4 assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which Mattingly has scored at least 25% of Sunnyslope's points. Another player making a difference was Rider Portela, who scored 13 points.
Sunnyslope's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for La Mirada, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-6.
Sunnyslope and Heritage Christian will face off at 10:00 a.m. on December 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Heritage Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 63rd in California, while Sunnyslope is ranked sixth in Arizona). La Mirada and Lynwood will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Lynwood knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 15 matches -- so hopefully La Mirada likes a good challenge.
