Jaxson Camp made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Camp was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Harrison Keels, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jake Moss, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one triple.
James F. Byrnes always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Gaffney entered their contest against Wade Hampton on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Gaffney fell just short of Wade Hampton by a score of 4-2. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jace Bradbury was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Beattie, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Gaffney's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for James F. Byrnes, they now also have a winning record of 4-3.
Gaffney's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: James F. Byrnes hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. It's a different story for Gaffney, though, as they've only averaged .239. Will they be able to contain James F. Byrnes' hitters?
James F. Byrnes couldn't quite get it done against Gaffney when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 13-8. Can James F. Byrnes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
