The Dekaney Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their 22nd straight loss. They were beaten by Spring 68-22. While losing is never fun, Dekaney can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1235th, while Spring is ranked 187th).
Spring's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Za'Kenya Thompson, who scored 11 points along with five steals. Thompson hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Alayah Masters, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and five steals.
Dekaney's loss was their 16th straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-22. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.8 points per game. As for Spring, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dekaney will take on Westfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Spring, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Aldine at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Aldine focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Saturday.
