Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Elizabeth Cardinals, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell 31-21 to Moffat County on Saturday. Elizabeth's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Elizabeth still got an impressive performance from Cooper Connelley, who rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. Connelley was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards.
Evan Beaver was the offensive standout of the game as he threw for 225 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Ian Champ Hafey also helped out with an impressive 80 receiving yards.
Elizabeth's defeat dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Moffat County, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Elizabeth does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Moffat County will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Berthoud at 1:00 p.m. Berthoud has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 284 points over their last six games.
