Lanier hasn't had much luck against Edison recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Voks will head out on the road to take on the Golden Bears at 7:00 p.m. Lanier has given up an average of 12.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Lanier came up short against Brackenridge on Tuesday, falling 17-1.
Lanier saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reyes Echavarria, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple was Echavarria's first of the season.
Edison not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 16th (when they won 18-0). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Sam Houston an 18-0 shutout. The high-scoring effort was just what the Golden Bears needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Eddi Nunez and Javier Herrera made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Nunez tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Herrera struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Edison is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-8-1 otherwise. At bat, Nunez went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Herrera got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two RBI gave Nunez a new career-high.
In other batting news, Damian Barrera was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ezrah Acosta-Torres, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Edison was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Lanier's defeat dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Edison, their record now sits at 5-9-1.
Lanier might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Edison in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Voks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
