Port Neches-Groves has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Lake Creek Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Port Neches-Groves extended their postseason success on Friday against Rouse. They breezed by the Raiders at home to the tune of 51-14. With Port Neches-Groves ahead 31-7 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Blair Chatagnier went supernova for Port Neches-Groves, rushing for 191 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries. Chatagnier was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Nguyen, who rushed for 149 yards while picking up 9.3 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, Lake Creek put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 78-27 victory over Crockett. Given Lake Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 54th, while Crockett is ranked 569th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Eli Morcos and Tyvonn Byars were among the main playmakers for Lake Creek as the former rushed for 40 yards and two touchdowns and the latter rushed for 208 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry. Brooks Mcgee did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 82 receiving yards.
Port Neches-Groves' win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.7 points per game. As for Lake Creek, their win bumped their record up to 12-0.
