The Alhambra Moors will take on the Sacred Heart of Jesus Comets at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Alhambra will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Last Thursday, Alhambra came up short against Bell Gardens and fell 17-12. The Moors haven't had much luck with the Lancers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Sofia Audelos was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Toni Covarrubias, who scored three runs while going 1-for-4.
Audelos wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Alhambra kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sacred Heart of Jesus). They were the clear victors by a 25-1 margin over St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Comets sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Alina Valenzuela made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Yelena Moran was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Trinity Godson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-6.
Alhambra's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Sacred Heart of Jesus, their victory bumped their record up to 4-7.
Everything went Alhambra's way against Sacred Heart of Jesus in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, as Alhambra made off with a 16-5 win. Does Alhambra have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sacred Heart of Jesus turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
