Softball Recap: Modoc Has No Trouble Against Weed

Modoc won the last time they faced Weed and things went their way on Friday too. The Braves were the clear victors by a 19-6 margin over the Cougars. Considering the Braves have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Faith Marquez and Caelli DePaul were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Marquez pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, DePaul pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Marquez a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At the plate, Marquez went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while DePaul got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Modoc got a massive performance out of Macy Benson, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Benson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madelyn Moltzen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs and two RBI.

Modoc always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Modoc and bumps their season record up to 8-9. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for Weed, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17-1.

Modoc didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-1 win against Mt. Shasta on the 2nd. As for Weed, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 5-4 defeat against Trinity on the 2nd.
