Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Weaver). They blew past the Faith Christian Lions 18-4 on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Bearcats as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Tucker Michaels made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Weaver is 2-1 when Michaels posts two or more runs, but 0-9 otherwise.
In other batting news, Landon Free was incredible, scoring four runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Carson Campbell was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Weaver always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Faith Christian only posted an OBP of .444.
Weaver's victory bumped their record up to 2-10. As for Faith Christian, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Weaver Bearcats face off against Saks Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Faith Christian, they will take on Wellborn at 12:00 p.m. on Monday.
