Eleanor Roosevelt's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Wise as they made off with a 17-0 victory. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by ten runs or more this season.
DJ Fuller made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, John Burke and Cannon Knight did most of the damage at the plate: Burke went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Knight went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Northwestern came out on top against Bladensburg on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 8-2 win. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Like Eleanor Roosevelt, Northwestern also got a great game from a two-way player: Alberto Weaver. Throwing, Weaver kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Elijah Miller struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. Weaver is becoming a predictor of Northwestern's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 2-6 when he doesn't). At the plate, Weaver got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Miller went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Weaver has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Carter Williams was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Northwestern is undefeated when Williams posts two or more runs, but 1-7 otherwise. Alvin Sammy was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.
Northwestern's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Eleanor Roosevelt, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-5.
Everything went Eleanor Roosevelt's way against Northwestern in their previous matchup back in March, as Eleanor Roosevelt made off with a 14-2 win. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
