With a playoff game on the line, the Velma-Alma Comets rose to the challenge on Saturday. They strolled past the Whippets with points to spare, taking the game 66-48. Winning may never get old, but Velma-Alma sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.
Leading Velma-Alma to victory were Kaiden Lyle and Slade Strickland. Lyle rushed for 187 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry, while Strickland rushed for 168 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Strickland is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. Langsten Walker also helped out with an impressive 92 receiving yards.
Velma-Alma's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Okeene, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4.
Velma-Alma will head out on the road to face off against Seiling at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Seiling will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line. Okeene does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
