Serra (San Diego, Calif.) had a big 28-point third quarter on Saturday, sealing a 38-12 victory over
University City (San Diego, Calif.).
The Conquistadors scored on a touchdown run by
Brandon Archie, a touchdown pass by
Kwahmell Archer to
Calvin Crockett, a
Willie Martinez touchdown pass to
Adrian Urueta and a
Nicholas Earl touchdown run in the quarter.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Martinez in the second quarter, Serra led 7-0 at the half.
SHS expanded its lead to 29 points entering the fourth quarter. The Conquistadors scored four times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by Archie.
Martinez stood out for Serra in the win. The junior running back threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.
Jordan Tatro played well for the Centurions. The sophomore running back ran for one touchdown.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 27-13 win for SHS.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Conquistadors, which was coming off a 31-14 defeat at the hands of West Hills in its previous game. The defeat comes as a step back for University City, which notched a 65-35 victory over Escondido Charter in its previous outing. The loss snapped University City's 2-game winning streak.
In a non-conference game next week University City (2-3) takes on La Jolla, and Serra (3-2) will go up against Patrick Henry in a City game.
