Gateway Christian is on a four-game streak of home losses, Greenbrier Christian Academy a four-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. Gateway Christian will take on the Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Friday, Gateway Christian came up short against Atlantic Shores Christian and fell 31-19. Gateway Christian has not had much luck with Atlantic Shores Christian recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Gateway Christian saw an underclassman step up: Evalyn Snider scored eight points. That was a full 42.1% of Gateway Christian's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Greenbrier Christian Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 34-29 to Isle of Wight Academy. While losing is never fun, Greenbrier Christian Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while Isle of Wight Academy is ranked 110th).
Gateway Christian's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Things could have been worse for Gateway Christian, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 41-23 loss to Greenbrier Christian Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2023.
