The Jefferson Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 16th straight loss. They took a serious blow against Alamo Heights, falling 77-14. While losing is never fun, Jefferson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1336th, while Alamo Heights is ranked 247th).
Leading Alamo Heights to victory were Sophia Zadel and Talaiyah Andrews. Zadel scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks, while Andrews dropped a double-double on 31 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Andrews has scored all season. Faye Peterson was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Jefferson has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 19 of their last 20 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-25 record this season. As for Alamo Heights, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season.
Jefferson will head out on the road to challenge Highlands at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Highlands is on a three-game streak of home losses, Jefferson an 11-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Alamo Heights will take on Lanier at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Lanier and Alamo Heights are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
