Blue Valley is 9-1 against the Buffaloes since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Blue Valley Rams will head out on the road to square off against the Onaga Buffaloes at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Blue Valley has four straight victories, the Buffaloes have seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Tuesday, Blue Valley was able to grind out a solid win over the Wildcats, taking the game 59-48.
Meanwhile, Onaga struggled with offensive rebounds on Monday (the Wildcats had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Onaga took a serious blow against the Wildcats, falling 66-38. While losing is never fun, Onaga can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 331st, while the Wildcats are ranked 96th).
Onaga's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Casen Hutfles, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, and Konnor Nider who scored 13 points along with three steals. That was a full 34.2% of Onaga's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Blue Valley's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Onaga, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12.
Blue Valley beat the Buffaloes 58-49 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Blue Valley since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
