Douglas is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Galena is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Douglas Tigers will take on the Galena Grizzlies at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Douglas had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past North Valleys 47-0 at home. Considering Douglas has won nine matches by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Connor Jackson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 227 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 carries. Jackson's longest rush was for an incredible 78 yards. Owen Evans made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
The team's defense also helped out by holding North Valleys to a paltry 116 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Douglas' ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Cole Smalley was especially locked on to North Valleys' QB and sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, Galena strolled past Wooster with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 36-17.
Colson Kermode was on fire: he rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also threw for 230 yards and a touchdown while picking up 11.5 yards per attempt. Joseph Czyz was another key contributor, gaining 98 total yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Douglas to 10-1 and Galena to 6-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Douglas has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 251.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Galena struggles in that department as they've been averaging 149.9 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches. Everything came up roses for Douglas against Galena in their previous matchup back in September as the squad secured a 51-21 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Galena's Czyz, who picked up 89 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Douglas still be able to contain him? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
